Briggs and Stratton Pressure Washer Troubleshooting

I did an investigation about the Briggs and Stratton pressure washer. I took feedback from about 40 customers whose services I provide. The subject of my search was, what are Briggs and Stratton Pressure Washer’s main problems and whether Washer users can solve the problems! My clients talked about many kinds of issues that they had experienced in reality. However, bypassing all of the problems, I identified two major issues. There are two problems:

1. Pump fault of Briggs and Stratton pressure washer machine

2. The problem with the unloader valve of the Briggs and Stratton pressure washer machine

Out of the 40 clients I surveyed, about 32 users mentioned these issues as very important. While other problems leave them in a dull state, these two significant problems cause them more pain. I made them understand that if they knew how to troubleshoot these problems, the issues would not bother them. I will present the method of solving other issues and troubleshooting the two fundamental issues mentioned here.

Briggs and Stratton Pressure Washer Troubleshooting:

At the end of spring, the beginning of summer, garbage needs to be cleaned. And for that, the pressure washer is an up-to-date and straightforward approach. Now, one has to face various problems while working with this pressure washer. Don’t panic; try to solve the problem yourself first. If that doesn’t work, get help from an experienced maintenance specialist.

Here, I will show the fundamental problems and solutions of the Briggs and Stratton pressure washer machines.

Pump Faulty:

The water pump is one of the vital parts of a pressure washer machine. Water pumps are troublesome for various reasons. The pump leaks are filled with debris or breaks. In this situation, the pump either shuts off the water supply or reduces Its water pressure. Occasionally the machine shuts down. If something like this happens, inspect the pump thoroughly and take the necessary steps. Clean the pump debris with a wire brush. If there is a leak, close it. Reinstate with a fresh one if it is not repairable at the end.

Clogged, Twists, Or Bends Hoses and Troubleshooting:

After a while, the hoses become clogged. Clogged hoses block the water supply. In this case, remove the hose from the pump for inspection. Clean properly with a cleaner when clogged. Also, the hose can be bent or twisted. Replace a new one without reusing the curved or twisted hose because defective hoses can cause damage in the long run.

Troubleshoot Pressure Washer Unloader Valve:

The unloader valve is one of the main parts of the Briggs and Stratton pressure washer machines. It works in a pressure washer machine in two ways. First, (Flow Actuated) This helps the water flow back to the pump when not sprayed. Second, (Pressure Actuated) helps to increase or decrease water pressure. It should tighten the unloader valve based on the flow of water.

Also, the valve may work incorrectly due to dirt. That is why it should always be kept clean. Unloader valves of different sizes are available in the market. Use the appropriate size valve for the machine. Because if there is a disturbance here, it may disrupt the normal functioning of the device.

Inspection of Pressure Washer Regulator:

The pressure regulator works like an unloader valve but in a slightly different way. Just as the unloader valve controls the flow of water and increases or decreases the washer’s water pressure, so does the pressure regulator. But it does not stop the flow back to the pump. If a machine is fitted with a regulator and the washer loses water pressure, it adjusts more water flow. Over time, it damages itself as well as the pump. Unloader valves for a washer machine are more acceptable.

Air Release from Pump:

Air enters the pump and obstructs the operation of the machine. This problem causes the device to vibrate, shut down, reduce water flow, or stop the flow. Remove the high-pressure hose and garden hose from the pump and reconnect the garden hose to the pump. Only turn on the pump for 4/5 minutes without starting the engine. Take out some water in this way. Now connect the high-pressure hose and start the engine. Make the machine-usable by expelling air from the pump in this manner.

Remove Debris from Nozzle:

The nozzle controls the pressure of the water flow. When you see that the machine is not working correctly, the water pressure has decreased, then you have to understand that there is a problem with the nozzle. If the nozzle is clogged in any way, it cannot give proper pressure, which causes difficulties in water flow. If the machine is not used for a long time, the nozzle may be clogged. The washer machine suddenly shuts down due to dirt in the nozzle. Remove the nozzle from the device and clean it with a brush. If it is ancient, remove it and install a new one. The old nozzle will not work as expected.

Water Filter Troubleshooting:

Often the machine cannot create pressure in the flow of water as there is not enough water. It reduced the water supply due to the accumulation of dirt in the water filter, which causes problems in the machine. Dirty filters block the flow of water. To solve this problem, the user has to remove the machine’s filter and clean it properly with a cleaner. Care should be taken while cleaning the water filter so that it does not break.

Checking the Spark Plug:

The engine of the pressure washer machine does not start occasionally. Here user negligence is taken as the main issue. It would be great if you rammed it in before starting the machine. But before that, you have to see if there are any damages to the spark plug. Replace the spark plug if the machine is not running even though there are no damages.

Before starting the engine, check that there is enough fuel. If the fuel is more than 30 days old, use new fuel instead of the old one. Older fuels accumulate dirt, evaporate and make the fuel thicker, which damages the engine. If there are several leaks in the fuel container, the fuel will leak out through that place, and the machine may shut down in the middle due to the insufficiency of energy. The user will take the necessary steps to identify the leak because all this carelessness will embarrass him.

High Hose Diameter Should be Use Properly:

High-pressure hoses create pressure in the water supply to the machine. It needs to be replaced if it is broken, bent, or twisted. To replace it, make sure the hose matches the diameter of the machine. Many times, the diameter looks the same, but the hose does not adjust with the device. When do you realize there is a problem with a high-pressure hose? When you see that the pressure of the machine is decreasing even after installing the high-pressure hose. High-pressure hoses need to be replaced prudently.

Spray Gun Troubleshoot:

When the spray gun leaks, the water is scattered here and there. If so, it becomes difficult for the user to continue cleaning activities. Close the leak with the necessary material. If it is not repairable, replace it. Usually, spray guns do not leak, so no one says anything about it.

Fuel Filter Clogged runoff r Damaged.

As a result of having fuel in the tank for a long time, the fuel filter gets clogged. The old fuel evaporates and makes the fuel denser. If the water filter is clogged, the air cannot get to and from the tank correctly. Gradually the tank heats up, which makes the machine rough. A rough machine can damage at any time. If dirt accumulates in the fuel filter, it should be cleaned immediately to prevent the machine’s damage.

Dirt accumulated in the fuel filter will mix when pouring fuel into the tank. That will contaminate the fuel. Contaminated fuels will gradually damage the engine, for which the user may have to pay an extreme price. Thoroughly clean the filter with a brush before pouring the energy.

Pressure Washer Pulsating:

The reason for pulsating Briggs and Stratton pressure washer machines is the dirty inlets and discharge valves. As a result of not cleaning for a long time, these are filled with garbage. These need to be cleaned every 5/6 use intervals. Especially cleaning time of the wood materials. The wood splints under high water pressure, which causes dirt to accumulate in the inlet and discharge valves.

Although there is a problem with the plunger, the washer machine pulsating, if the washer machine is pulsating even after the inlet and discharge valve is clean, it should be understood that there is a problem with the plunger. Most of the time, the plunger breaks down and becomes unusable. In this case, replace the old one with a new one.

Make Sure Desired Water Flow Level.

Check the water flow level. The ideal water flow level for a pressure washer is 3-4 GPM. If the washer fails to deliver water as expected, you should use an alternative source. But first, make sure that there is enough water in the pump. Inadequate water is responsible for the low pressure of water in the washer.

Also, it would help if you took care that the water temperature does not go above 100 Fahrenheit. Arrange for cold water supply as much as possible.
