Here is this troubleshooting guide, we will show you how to troubleshoot these problems and fix them. So, keep reading.
Maytag Bravos XL Washer Won’t Turn On
Don’t know what causes your washing machine to fail? Then, stick with this chapter till the end to know the reasons behind it.
01. Not Get Sufficient Power
Whether it’s your Maytag Washer or other appliances, you can’t turn them on if they don’t get sufficient electric supply. Your washer will not get proper electric supply if:
- You don’t plug the washer into a grounded 3-prong outlet.
- Maybe you plug your Maytag Washer into an extension cord.
- There is no power to the outlet.
- The circuit breaker gets tripped.
Solution:
Firstly, ensure you plug the electric cord into a dedicated 3-prong outlet. Never insert the washer power cord into an extension cord. If these are okay, ensure there is power to the outlet where you plugged your Maytag Washer.
You can easily test whether the outlet is fine or not. Just plug your washer into another outlet and see if the washer turns on or not. If yes, you need to replace the faulty outlet.
Nonetheless, don’t forget to check out the circuit breaker for a trip. You should flip the breaker to the On position if it gets tripped. If the problems continue, hire a certified electrician for help.
02. Corroded Contact Pads
The user panel or interface of your washer helps you operate the washer. At the underside of the interface, you can find many contact points. When you press a button on the interface, it sends a signal to the control board through a wire harness. And this wire harness is attached to the under-side of the user interface. You can find a section of the circuit board and other contact points are exposed.
The hot steam from the washer itself can make its way to those contact points & pads and corrode them over time. When the contact pads get corroded, they fail to provide electrical signals to your control board. Consequently, the washer won’t turn on.
Solution:
Cleaning those contact pads will be an easy fix for this issue. To remove the corroded dirt, you need to disassemble the user interface. Follow the below steps to remove the user interface:
- Use a screwdriver to pull out the three screws on the back of the washer.
- Then, remove the two screws on the retention pieces, allowing the top of the washer to pivot.
- Once you remove those three screws, you can now open the lid to the washing machine. Just pull the washer towards the front, lift up on the lid, and push it backwards to finally engage the lid to open.
- To remove the interface, use a large screwdriver or a pair of pliers. Next, press the metal spring clips up into the washer lid to release the interface.
- Now, simply roll up the interface to expose the control board and the underside of the interface. Make sure you disconnect the wire that holds the interface in place. Finally, remove the harness connector that one on the interface and pull out the user interface.
Once you remove the user interface, you can find different contact pads at the left underside of the interface. They should be neat & clean. If they get corroded, use rubbing alcohol or alcohol wipes to clean those contact pads.
03. Fuse Gets Blown
You will fail to turn on your washing machine if the fuse gets blown out. The fuse will blow out if the washer circuit gets overloaded. In simple words, you may plug too many appliances into an outlet where you plugged the washer also. You can easily determine whether the fault is at the fuse or not. Just use a multimeter to check continuity.
Solution:
Replacing the fuse will be a simple fix if the fuse doesn’t have continuity. Don’t forget to inspect for shorted-out components like the wiring, motor, and drain pump. If you don’t solve these underlying issues, your new fuse will also blow out. If you are not mechanically inclined, call a certified electrician to resolve those problems.
04. Defective Timer
A timer of a washing machine controls the washing & spinning function of it.

This timer consists of a lot of gears and springs. If the springs or gears get broken, your washer will not turn on.
Solution:

05. Defective Lid Switch
The lid switch is located close to the access door of your washing machine. That’s why this switch is also known as the door switch. Just remove every piece of clothing from your washing machine and find the small plastic tub or lid switch. If it gets broken, you can’t turn on your washing machine.
Solution:
You can easily figure out whether the lid switch works properly or not by closing the door. Just close the lid and hear for a click. If you don’t hear the click, the lid switch gets broken. So, you need to replace it to let your Maytag Washer function.

06. Wiring Gets Loose
At the beginning of this article, we described that the wire harness connects the user interface to the main control board. This wire connection between the interface and the control board is important as this wire harness sends signals to your mainboard. If the wiring comes loose or gets damaged, it fails to send electric signals to your electric control board. In return, the Maytag Bravos XL washer won’t turn on.
Solution:
Just remove the user interface by pulling out the three screws. Then, check the wire harness from the interface to the control board for continuity. If the wiring gets loose, tighten it up. Otherwise, you should replace the wiring or the control board.
07. Faulty Control Board
A defective control board is another culprit that causes your Maytag Washer to not turn on. If the control board gets faulty, no button on the user interface will work. The main reason behind a defective control board is the wiring between the interface and control board gets burned out or damaged.
Solution:
Just replace the defective control board with a new one to let your Maytag Washer function again. If you don’t know how to change the electric control board, you can call the Maytag Washer Support Team to do this for you.
